The Canal de Garonne is less famous than the Canal du Midi and yet, it has a superb cycle path that runs next to it and makes it a very nice destination for self guided cycling holidays in the South West of France. If you follow the itinerary of Canal des Deux Mers between Bordeaux and Toulouse, you will be riding mostly on the greenway of Canal de Garonne. The cycle path surface is globally in a very good state. You cycle from lock to lock along the river “Garonne”, which is how the local inhabitants like to name it, and reach without too much effort the many bastides and other emblematic cities of the South West as Agen or Montauban. The cycling route is however mostly running through countryside, across lowlands, orchards or along hillsides. The cycling tours along the Canal de Garonne are not too challenging and are safe for families. You will be able to relax and recharge in a region which strongest asset is authenticity.
