Velo Francette route

Embark on a simple and authentic journey by bike on the Velo Francette itinerary. Voted "best bicycle itinerary" in 2018, the Velo Francette route offers you the possibility to cycle from the English Channel to the Atlantic Ocean over more than 600 km. The itinerary crosses Normandy, Pays de la Loire and Poitou-Charentes to reach the Atlantic coast at La Rochelle. Thanks to its diversity of landscapes, its cultural and its architectural heritage, the Velo Francette takes you through an authentic and still preserved "douce France". The itinerary is very well marked and mostly composed of secondary shared roads and bike paths. The Velo Francette is connected to several other major cycling routes: between Angers and Saumur the route follows the Loire à vélo (EuroVelo 6) and in La Rochelle it joins the Velodyssey (EuroVelo 1). We have tested for you the southern part of the Velo Francette, from the Loire castles to the Atlantic Ocean, along the Thouet and the Marais Poitevin.
