  • This Loire valley bike tour has you visit among the most emblematic castles of the Loire. First you discover the medieval city Amboise with the royal castle of Amboise and the Clos Lucé, last home of Leonardo da Vinci. Then you follow the Loire river to reach the castle of Chaumont-sur-Loire and the International Garden Festival. Then you meander through the countryside to reach the edge of the river Cher. Follow this charming river to reach the majestic Chenonceau castle. You leave through the forest to return to Amboise.

    Amboise -Chaumont sur Loire

    You leave the medieval town of Amboise, the royal castle of Amboise and the Clos Lucé. Follow the toues (typical boats) along the Loire river to Chaumont-sur-Loire. This village is famous for its fairy tale castle but especially for its International Garden Festival, which showcases talent creations.

    Chaumont-sur-Loire - Chenonceaux

    You leave the banks of the Loire river and cross small quaint villages and the countryside to reach the Cher river, that you follow until the castle of Chenonceau. Admire the magnificent castle overlooking the Cher.
    You can continue along the Cher banks to the underground city near Bourré.

    Chenonceaux - Amboise

    Cross the majestic forest of Amboise and ride past the Pagoda Chanteloup to reach Amboise. You enjoy this medieval town and Clos Lucé before leaving.

    On your arrival day, we provide you with:

    • a touring bike adjusted to your size or a tandem
    • equipped : front rack pack with an integrated file compartment, saddlebag, helmet (on demand), reflective vest, repairing toolkit with patches etc.

    We also provide you with the appropriate equipment for your children : baby seat, bike trailer or trailer bike depending on their age and size.

    Electric bikes are also available for adults (+1m55).

    You can of course also bring your own bikes, in this case a reduction will be applied (see the Tarif tab)


    Luggage


    For this trip, bikes are equipped with 2 waterproof saddle bags with a capacity of 10 to 20L each to transport your luggage. Do not forget to put your items in a soft travel bag to be able that you can roll it up in your saddle bags.

    For more comfort, you can choose to add luggage transport in your booking:
    (see rate in "Prices")

    • We transport your luggage from one accommodation to the next using a private vehicle.
    • Your luggage is directly delivered in your accommodation before you arrive.
    • We provide a saddlebag for the things you shall need during the day.(included in your bike rental).
    • We advise to take an extra set of clothes with you if you expect to arrive before 5p.m. at your accommodation.

    Our word of advice : as we know from experience, we strongly recommend you to avoid wearing a backpack during your cycling trip.


    Travel documents

    A cycling holiday is the best way to explore a region and discover its culture, landscapes and local traditions.

    Your tour is self-guided to give you the freedom to ride at your own pace. You will be provided all the information you need to enjoy the itinerary and its points of interests.

    Our documentation contains a very detailed description of the itinerary. No matter how you usually navigate, you will find your way thanks to our comprehensive guidance material including:
    • a roadbook with maps that we drew at the easiest scale to follow on a bike
    • a roadbook with step-by-step description giving the direction to follow at each intersection and highlighting the points of interest

    For this short trip your travel documents will be sent electronically.


    Our GPS App

    For this trip, you can also use our smartphone app featuring GPS guidance (without extra fee).

    You will find in the app all the information given in the map and step-by-step roadbooks. You will be located on the itinerary with the GPS device of your phone. The route and directions to follow will be both viewable on the screen of your phone and announced aloud. As you ride along the itinerary, you will be given information about visits, restaurants, services and useful alerts on the way.

    -> You need to have a smartphone and download Le Velo Voyageur app on your Apple or Android store before the trip. All details concerning the downloading and the use of the application will be given after we have confirmed the booking and the balance is paid. Once the trip is downloaded, the GPS guidance can be used off-line.
  • Practical information

  • To get to departure point:

    • By plane: flight to Paris or Tours and then train to Amboise.
    • By train: inter-regional trains from Paris-Austerlitz station (direct or 8min connection in Orléans). The duration of the trip is from 1h40 to 2h10. Or TGV (fast trains) from Paris Montparnasse and connection in Saint-Pierre-des-Corps to take a regional train to Amboise. The duration of the trip is about 1h35.     Parking

    If you arrive by car, you can park your car in a public car park in the city, please have a look : parkopedia.fr for more informations.
    It's not possible to park your car at the hotel during your whole stay.


    Meeting time:

    You pick up your bikes in the morning between 9.30am and 12.30pm. We recommend you to arrive around 10am to enjoy your day fully without rushing and be able to do the visits on the way.

    Un séjour au top

    Très satisfaite de ce séjour : les informations données avant le départ sont complètes afin de bien préparer son séjour, les vélos sont bien équipés, les différents itinéraires passent majoritairement sur des pistes cyclables à travers petits villages, vignes, forêts, champs, c'est super agréable. l'Application est très bien faite- bien prendre un power bank car très énergivore, on avait été prévenu - c'est un vrai plus pour naviguer en toute tranquillité. Les hôtels prévus étaient très bien, à proximité des châteaux, on a été très bien accueillis. C'est un beau séjour à partager en famille pour s'oxygéner et se cultiver l'esprit

    Séjour 3j chateaux de la Loire

    Entièrement satisfait de mon séjour réservé via Le Vélo Voyageur. Les hébergements étaient magnifiques (chambres d'hôtes parfaites), les paysages traversés et chateaux visités enchanteresques... Pour en profitez au maximum, privilégiez 2 jours pour faire un trajet Vélo (~30km), la visite du chateau, dépendances et jardins; et profitez de la ville et alentours. Ne vous embêtez pas avec vos bagages. Le service conciergerie (transfert de bagages) est parfait. Expérience à renouveler sans modération... Idéal également pour visiter les caves viticoles présentes le long de ce magnifique parcours.

    3 jours très agréables à découvrir les châteaux de la Loire. Lé séjour est vraiment bien organisé (location des vélos, trajets très détaillés, entrées des châteaux réservées à l'avance...). Les hébergements sont de qualité. Merci pour ces bonnes vacances, nous repartirons avec plaisir avec Le vélo voyageur !

    Hébergement Le Relais de Chenonceaux à éviter car certaines chambres pour Vélo voyageur ressemblent plus à une chambre de bonne sans WIFI avec bruit de frigo et impossibilité de se mettre debout dans la baignoire. Le Gîte l'Onzaine à Onzain est par contre très confortable bien que petite et original par sa décoration baroque et l'accueil chaleureux des propriétaires qui contribuent à passer une belle soirée. L'espace pour ranger les vélo est aussi très appréciable.

    Séjour très satisfaisant. Passer par une agence a vraiment simplifié le processus: hôtels réservés, vélos disponibles sans s'embêter avec une caution, etc. Le tout pour un prix qui nous a semblé moins cher qu'en faisant tout soi même. Nous recommandons le vélo voyageur :)
